2:15 Simple Syncopation

Simple Syncopation is made up of select students from the Jazz Band Program at Donvale Christian College. With three big bands, four concert bands, four string orchestras, and a plethora of smaller ensembles scattered throughout the school, these students know what it means to be immersed in music.

This student-run ensemble has been playing together regularly all year, and had their first major performance for the year at Mt Gambier, Generations in Jazz.

With a selection of repertoire from the old school, as well as the new school, this group of musicians will provide listeners a chance to sit back and relax, and to relish in the knowledge that jazz is truly going strong with the next generation!

For over a decade, Shirazz has held a reputation as one of Melbourne’s most exciting Dixieland bands, playing to packed houses across Australia and New Zealand.

Shirazz’s irrevererent take on the trad jazz classics, their inventive reworking of pop tunes, smoky low down blues dirges and cheeky original material gives the band their unique appeal – jazz, but not quite how you remember it.

“A lively dance set with a sense of fun… they delivered in spades – with some mischief, humour and a couple of singalongs!” – Michael Stewart, Director, Newport Folk Festival

At home, they perform regularly at bars, pubs, dances and parties.

They have released five albums, including one nominated for an Australian Jazz Bell Award.
