CMaP-Bendigo Bank Jazz Scholarships 2025

Note: Applications are now open and will close on Fri 28 February 2025.

The scholarship was first offered in 2024 with only an instrumental scholarship.

In 2025, there will be two scholarships: an instrumental scholarship and an audio scholarship.

Eligibility

If you live in or go to school in Maroondah or surrounding suburbs, you are eligible to enter.

Instrumental scholarship

You will need to be playing at Grade 5 level or higher but you don’t need to have done exams. If you’re in doubt, ask your teacher.

What you’ll get

You will have a featured spot every month at our Jazz On Sundays events from April/May to September. We will help you to choose songs for that spot and help you with playing those songs: there will be phone conversations and a rehearsal session. You will receive a small payment for each gig.

Process

Application is by video audition.

We will send you a backing track with instructions. You will play the head and an improvised section. Video your performance and send it to us.

To get the backing track and other information, please message us through the Contact form on the website.

Audio scholarship

Jazz On Sundays features a big band, a smaller band and various singers. The audio setup is 10 microphones, plus instrumental feeds, two PA systems, foldback all controlled from an iPad.

What you’ll get

You will be involved in the setup and presentation of our Jazz On Sundays events from April/May to September. We will guide you through the setup and the mixing, building your independence with the goal of your taking charge of the audio for the event.

You will receive a small payment for each gig.

Process

Please message us through the Contact form on the website. We will then respond with an email address that you can use to apply.

You will make a written application, outlining your experience and interest in the area. You will need a letter of support from someone who has overseen your audio work.
